What to expect when your pet has surgery with Drift

At Drift we understand that it can be scary, stressful, and overwhelming when your beloved pet needs surgery. We are here to help make this process as easy for you and as safe and comfortable for your pet as possible.

When your pet has surgery with Drift they will have their initial exam, diagnosis, and diagnostic tests performed with your primary veterinarian. Surgery will then be scheduled for a future date and will be performed at your primary veterinary clinic. Your pet is dropped off the morning of surgery to begin preparations for surgery. Once Drift’s surgeon, Dr. Quandt, arrives at the clinic she will examine your pet and then give you a call to discuss the planned surgery, aftercare, and potential complications while your pet is placed under anesthesia. Dr. Quandt will call you again after surgery is completed to let you know how everything went. She will also provide written aftercare instructions for you after surgery. Most patients will be discharged the afternoon or evening of surgery but occasionally overnight care may be recommended (either at your primary veterinary clinic, if available, or via transfer to a 24 hour facility). Follow-up care (most often a 2-week exam for suture removal and then an 8-week exam for radiographs for orthopedic procedures) will be completed with your primary veterinarian. Dr. Quandt is always happy to answer questions or make recommendations to your primary veterinarian regarding this follow-up care.
